How to Create a Morning Routine that Will Help You Conquer the Day
The morning routines of many successful people have been documented. Building a morning routine that sets you up for the day ahead will allow you to conquer the rest of the day. Everyone’s ideal routine will be different, but here are some of the key items you’ll want to include in yours.
Drink Water
I have a problem with not drinking enough water in general; It’s something I’m working on. I’ve noticed that in the morning, I’m even more dehydrated than normal. This is because overnight, I am not drinking anything for up to eight hours. Plus, if I sweat, I’m losing even more. This leaves me in a condition where I am dehydrated and even more tired than I should be in the morning.
Every morning, I drink a bottle of water as soon as I get up. After I do this, I usually feel more awake and refreshed. In order to make it easier to remember, I fill a reusable water bottle before bed and place it on my nightstand. That way, as soon as I wake up, I can just grab the bottle and drink it.
Make the Bed
After high school, I pretty much stopped making my bed every morning. However, more recently, I learned that making your bed can actually be beneficial.
Making your bed allows you to have something accomplished before you start the rest of your day. You can close off your room knowing that that one thing is done. Plus, if you are prone to wanting to go back to bed, it’s much less likely to happen if your bed is made-you wouldn’t want to mess it up, would you? In addition, it is much more satisfying to climb into a nicely made bed at night than it is to curl up in comforters that have been strewn everywhere (just think of the last time you stayed in a hotel).
Exercise
Exercising is something you should be doing at least a few times a week. The best time to get it done is in the morning. How many times have you said you’ll exercise in the evening, only to get too busy later on? Well if it’s one of the first things you do, nothing else can pop up.
Change your Clothes
If you’ve just exercised, you may be sweaty and need to change your clothes anyway. But, if it happens to be your rest day, it’s very tempting to just stay in your pajamas all day. After all, you work at home; no one’s going to see you!
While that may be true, changing your clothes, even if it’s into something comfy can provide you with psychological benefits. You are more likely to focus because you have moved out of the sleep part of your day and into the work part.
Eat Breakfast
Breakfast is an important meal. I know it may be tempting to skip breakfast. But eating a healthy breakfast – fruits, whole grains, and/or proteins – will provide you with fuel for the rest of the day. Even something as simple as eggs with whole wheat toast is quick, but nutritious.
Plan your Day
Having a plan when you jump into your work day can make your day go a lot smoother. Hopefully, you braindumped what you needed to do today, last night. If so, you can start by looking over your to do list. Then pick out your three must-dos. These are the most important items for you to accomplish today. If you know what they are, you can prioritize them and are less likely to procrastinate.
From here, you are ready to have a productive work day. Feel free to add in any other aspects that may make your morning routine more effective.
