5 Key Ways to Boost Your Productivity as an Entrepreneur
When you run your own business, being productive as possible is of utmost importance. There are so many things competing for your time that it becomes essential to boost your productivity
Over the years, I’ve figured out what allows me to increase my productivity. I hope this list is helpful in finding your own workflow as well.
List & Prioritize
You probably already make a to-do list. I live by mine. They are super helpful to know what I need to accomplish by a given time.
However, a simple to-do list can be massively improved by prioritizing it. By letting yourself know which items are most important, you can quickly see where you should place the most emphasis.
So, pick the top items that you need to complete that day. And just focus on those instead of worrying about your entire to-do list at once.
Plan & Schedule
Having a plan is always better than not having a plan. This is still the case when scheduling your day.
In your calendar (paper or digital), pencil in portions that you can’t change. These could be meetings, appointments, or whatever works for you. Be sure to keep these time-bound appointments.
Then, add in the items that aren’t time-bound, but that you want to accomplish that day. This will allow you to block out specific portions of your day and know you have the time to get things done.
Eat the Frog
So we all have that task that we really need to do, but just can’t stand doing. I have a couple of those. And sometimes I procrastinate on them because I just want to keep pushing them off. However, eventually I have to do it anyway.
Instead of pushing things off until the last possible minute, “eat the frog.” Alright, so eat the frog is actually just means to just get something done that you don’t like. Don’t push it off, just get it done, and then you don’t have to worry about it later!.
The real key here is to eat the frog as early as possible. I find it best to do the thing I am least looking forward to early in the morning. I get it done and out of the way. Plus, I don’t have to dread it the rest of the day!
Find Your Time
Some of us are night owls and some of us are early birds. That’s pretty well know. However, even within those labels, we each have times when we are our most productive. For example, I am do really well about an hour after I wake up. I can work for a while and be very focused and productive.
I’m sure you have your best time to work too. And, it may depend on your circumstances. Things like work, kids, etc. can shape when we have time to work at our best.
Try to start noticing what part of the day you feel most productive during. Then, schedule your tasks so that the work that really demands your focus can happen at that time. It might take a little bit of experimenting, but just notice how you feel and you’ll figure it out!
Batching for Productivity
My last tip to boosting your productivity is to batch your work. I talked in more detail about batching in a previous post, but honestly, it can be such a time saver!
When you batch your work, you take a few tasks that you would usually do throughout the week and do them all at once. The plus side is that you should get into a workflow and you won’t have to waste time switching between tasks.
